Children growing up in a safe and well‑organized orphanage are aware of—and deeply grateful for—their relatively privileged environment and the care and dedication of their caregivers. They  all consistently perform well in school and demonstrate strong determination to build meaningful lives, often expressing a desire to contribute positively to their communities. 

However, due to the very poor living standards, health issues, unemployment, and high rates of addictions, many children are orphaned or live without at least one stable caregiver. As a result, there are many children in urgent need of safe, nurturing homes. 

A leading  example is Ikhaya Lekamva in Langa. This orphanage (foundation/NGO) provides a safe and supportive environment for approximately 30 children between the ages of 2 and 15, supported by a dedicated staff of six.

Establishing a children’s home like of this nature requires an initial investment of approximately €125,000. Ongoing operations depend entirely on monthly donations of around €5,000 (approximately €160 per child), as there is no government funding available. 

Many more homes are needed to provide safe environments and a hopeful future for children who need it most.
