Thirty orphans, six caregivers, under one safe roof. Ikhaya Lekamva is a leading example — for these children, it’s everything. They go to school, do their homework, take care of each other, and are eager to give back. € 180 a month keeps one child safe.

In townships like Langa, a home like this is still a dream – and a need for –  thousands of children. Due to the very poor living standards, health issues, unemployment, and high rates of addictions, many children are orphaned or live without even one stable caregiver. As a result, countless  children urgently need of safe, nurturing homes.

Children growing up in a safe and well-organized orphanage are aware of—and deeply grateful for—their relatively privileged environment and the care and dedication of their caregivers. They  consistently perform well in school and demonstrate strong determination to build meaningful lives, often expressing a desire to contribute positively to their communities.

The aforementioned Ikhaya Lekamva orphanage (foundation/NGO) is a leading example. It is a safe home for approximately 30 children between the ages of 2 and 15, supported by a dedicated staff of six.

Establishing homes like of this requires an initial investment of approximately €125,000. Government funding is not available, so ongoing operations depend entirely on donations. Each month, another  €5,000 (approximately €160 per child) is needed.

Many more homes are needed to provide safe environments and a hopeful future for children who need it most. Local communities do their utmost to care for these children, even under the poorest circumstances. Every donation directly makes a meaningful difference in their lives.
